A North London doctor who stopped during her commute home from work to treat a motorcyclist who had been thrown from his bike has spoken of how her own bicycle was stolen by an opportunist thief.
The incident happened at the Archway end of Holloway Road during last Friday’s evening rush hour as Jennifer Perry, aged 26, headed home to Angel from her work as a psychiatrist with Barnet and Edgware mental health trust, reports the London Evening Standard.
"The motorcyclist had come off his bike and was lying in the road with a few people standing round," explained Doctor Perry, who had trained as a medical doctor.
"There was a car parked blocking the road to stop the traffic,” she continued.
"I quickly rushed over to see if he was okay. My bike was resting by my leg while I was checking on the motorcyclist. I suddenly felt it move and looked round and saw a boy making off with it. He was so quick, I tried to chase but I would never have caught him."
Dr Perry told the Standard that she had only bought the £400 bicycle two months ago.
"I stopped to help and for someone to take advantage of that in such a way is upsetting. You have to wonder what the world is coming to."
The newspaper added that the motorcyclist, who is thought to have received minor injuries in the incident, was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Less harmful citrus degreaser is easy to find at £8 or less for 5 litres. Works ok for me, even diluted up to 4:1. Both paraffin and white spirit...

Let's assume that he is not a proper cyclist and would therefore choose to ride on the pavement. Wouldn't it be a strange twist of fate if he was to get knocked off his bike, (stolen of course), by an irate pedestrian, and to consequently be ignored by a passing doctor, fearful of having her bike stolen.
There are a few offers of cash from readers of the Standard which is heart-warming. Of course there is also a comment about riding on pavements and jumping red lights. A doctor has her biked nicked from right beside her and there is still some snidey git ready to post Daily Mail comments.
I have officially heard it all now...
Or time for bad PR when we find out the insurance company is not going to honour a claim as it wasn't locked up :o
Now is the ideal time for a bike company seeking good PR to offer the good Doctor a new free bike!

BMLH - agreed. I thought I was going to read that the Dr leant the bike against the shop window on the pavement 10 feet away or something, but no, the brazen little sh!t had the nerve to take it when it was leaning against the owner's leg.
What most of us cyclists would do to a scrote like that...
A warning, slap on the wrist is too good for them. Nothing severe to see here!
