Are these Break Beats or Brake Beats? Funky DJ bike uses disc wheels, no really.

Don't know what these Dutch designers have been smoking but if we could have it in cake form…...

Feats Per Minute collaboration presents bike adapted using two vertical juke box pickups to play 12" vinyl tunes on its wheels. It quite literally provides music while you cycle.

It helps to appreciate the little Dutch in-joke playing on the word 'Fiets' for bicycle; three designers Pieter Frank de Jong, Merel Slootheer and Liat Azulay have adapted an old Alpina bike, moving the drivetrain over to the left side so that the records play in the correct direction on the right. There's a cutting-edge mono-stay arrangement, too.

Needless to say, pedalling determines the music speed so, according to design blog It's Nice That tunes have been selected for pace; "house (170-300 beats per minute), disco (120), ballads (60) and pop/ hiphop (90 to 120)."

A 9-volt battery to power the amplifier immediately suggests to us a sophisticated Mk2 version with a dynamo hub but, whatever, we're loving their work. Ride on, crazy Netherlanders.
