Fancy some hill climb action this weekend? If you do you might want to point your wheels Up the Buttress in Hebden Bridge… which not only promises the usual hill climb pain up one of the steepest climbs in the Calder Valley, but with the added fun of cobbles thrown in. Nice.

Up the Buttress starts from the very centre of Hebden Bridge and is used as a footpath, so we're guessing it's generally off limits to bikes, oh and it's so steep that it has a handrail up it. The event is part of the Calderdale Cycle Festival and our good chums at Singletrack are one of the sponsors. Enter online and you will get a Singletrack water bottle, T-shirt, and a copy of the magazine in your goody bag. If that level of commitment isn't your thing you can roll up on the day, although places are limited.

Start line is the doors of the Hole in the Wall pub on Hanginroyd Lane which should only add to the interest. Like the Frome Cobble Wobble later this month you can enter on any bike and there will be various categories of prizes on offer for everything from best fancy dress outfit to most comedy crash, there's even wild talk that the person making it to the top in the fastest time may get some sort of prize.

The race starts at the very civilized hour of 1pm and finishes at 5pm and you can enter and find out more by going to the Singletrack website, www.singletrackworld.com.
