If you are a supporter of Friends of the Earth and enjoy a cycling challenge then a brand new London to Edinburgh Friends of the Earth charity bike ride could be of interest.

Riders can join the Big Green Bike Ride, which takes place over six days between 6-11 May 2012, for one day or challenge themselves to pedal the whole 500 miles between the two capitals.

The route covers quiet roads through some of the UK’s most stunning countryside, and those taking part will camp in tent villages and be treated to locally-sourced organic food throughout the ride.

You’ll get free biodegradable, palm-oil-free bike products from Green Oil and those who do the whole ride will enjoy a celebration and a good night’s sleep in an Edinburgh hotel.

The ride will be fully marshalled with a support team and medic on hand.

Tracey Pritchard, Head of Fundraising at Friends of the Earth, said:

“The great thing about this event is that you can choose to sign up for a one-day challenge or put your hat in the ring for the whole 500 miles.

“The views will be stunning and everyone taking part will be treated to organic food and free green bike goodies.

“It’s a great opportunity to have a green adventure while raising vital funds for Friends of the Earth’s campaigns to keep our planet safe and healthy.”

For more information and to register visit www.biggreenbikeride.com. Early bird registrations before 1 August 2011 will be entered into a competition to win cycling goodies from Green Oil.

Looks like that might be something to do on my birthday next year 11th May, but what i dont get, you can sign up for 6 days or just individual days, but it looks like you can sign up for 6 individual days (split into 2 registrations of 3 day), there for making it cheaper to register and only have to raise £600 rather than £1600 Thinking

Hi, I’m one of the bike ride organisers at Friends of the Earth. Thanks for pointing this out, but I'm afraid that 3 is the maximum number of individual days participants can sign up for. There are other elements to consider too - riders taking part in the full six days have included amongst other things, overnight accommodation, breakfast, overnight bike storage and other evening surprise treats, none of which you'd get if you registered for a number of individual days. We’d love it if you could join us, especially as it would be fantastic to celebrate your birthday with you at the end of the ride party in Edinburgh!

Hi Friends of the Earth, if you were one of the FOE people at Hop Farm festival recently I apologise for my drunken ramblings whilst having a quick phone charge.
