Transport charity runs Try Cycling event in Glasgow tomorrow

Getting more Glaswegians on bikes is the name of the game

Glasgow community charity, Free Wheel North is holding a Try Cycling Open Day tomorrow in the city between 10am and 3pm so if you know anyone who might like to give two wheels a go why not tell them to pop along.

The event will take place on Glasgow Green in the small park just behind the people's palace "just look out for bikes of all sorts and that will be us" Alec McKinnon from Free Wheel North told us.

Free Wheel North's mission is to unlock "the energy of the city landscape" and the people who live within by promoting cycling and walking - activities that promote both physical and mental health and help to engage people in tackling the problems of poor street design in urban environments.

To find out more about Free Wheel North visit their website www.freewheelnorth.org.uk although beyond the homepage it does seem to be a work in progress at the moment.

In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

Doing this on a weekday, entirely in working hours, seems less than perfect. How much of a turn-out can they get? Shame they weren't able to organise it for the weekend 2
