New tees of GB cyclists from Velostars

Wiggo, Thomas and Cav first off the presses

We've just been sent a selection of tees of GB cycling stars from new shirt company, Velostars. It's the brainchild of photographer Rob Lampard, who's been a Tour de France  and race photographer for the last 20 years.

Currently he has three tees on offer. Our particular favourite is Wiggo, which is black on a grey tee. G-Man – Geraint Thomas to you and me – references his nickname of 'the Penguin'. Where's that from? Well, David Millar can take some of the blame for that. "Gee has a soft face, but he's like one of the penguins in the film Madagascar", he's quoted as saying of the Welshman. "He looks cuddly but every now and then you get a look from him which makes you realise he's anything but."

Last of all there's Cav, in classic salute pose, green on black. All the tees are £21.50 including free first class postage within the UK. Let us know what you think!

Dave is a founding father of road.cc, having previously worked on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike magazines back in the day. He also writes about e-bikes for our sister publication ebiketips. He's won three mountain bike bog snorkelling World Championships, and races at the back of the third cats.

I like rich mitch's tees too. but he's not the first person to draw a cyclist, nor will he be the last. these tees aren't in any way the same, other than the subject matter

I can't see why anyone would want to wear one of these. They would work well enough in a cartoon strip.

team type 1 tee shirts in the USA are $12.00 ..... A tee shirt for a cause + a good team (in the tour de suisse at present)... I only think when buying a "picture" / "promotional" T shirt it should be for a cause of some sort....

If our friends from SKY produced a team livery Tee in "Green" with Charity contribution then I would be interested (BIG HINT)...... 38 38

Don't want to kick the dead donkey further but imhop these guys are way off their intended mark in terms what they are clearly trying to do in emulating Richard Mitchelson's prints for Rouleur.

Quite simply Mitchelson's a far more talented designer and illustrator than whomever is doing these, and I doubt his drawings are quickly done just to flog a few t-shirts either... It's a surprisingly complex medium with a lot of talented young designers using it (esp. in the fixed gear domain) to show their skills in other areas and make a small profit that will probably be invested elsewhere in their creative output.

These things-and previous you've shown-just come across as amateurish and lacking in any really interesting or even fundamental design skill.

Sorry...

Seriously, at what occasion would any self-respecting person wear a T-shirt with an enormous crude child's drawing of a moderately famous cyclist on the front? A drawing so unrecognisable that it requires a caption? If you'd simply put the drawings up and asked people to guess what they were meant to be, how many people do you reckon would have identified Bradley Wiggins? It makes The Simpsons look like Rembrandt.

The combination of the ugliness, the sycophantic-cringey- fanboyness and the knowledge that I actually paid money for it would be too much to bear.

Since you ask. 1
