Mods and Rollers: Brighton gets set for a rumble, Rollapaluza style

Roller racing aces team up with Kinesis and Morvelo to bring the rig to the South coast

It’s the weekend, it’s the Summer, it’s a seaside town. It’s time to hit the promenade for a great big rumble then, it’s as traditional as candy-floss and a Kiss-Me-Quick hat. But put the Lambretta back in the garage, return the leather jacket to the wardrobe and dig out the cycle-jersey instead, there’s a Rolla Riot going on.

Brighton based clothesmongers Morvelo Bicycle Apparel and Sussex ridefellows Kinesis Bikes UK have teamed up with roller-racing maestros Rollapaluza to bring you Rolla Riot. Those keen riders and competition junkies at Morvelo say that for too long Brighton, despite its thrusting bike scene, has been denied the pain, pleasure and shouting that is roller-racing, but not for much longer...

Taking place this Friday June 10th in the private first-floor bar of Heist, just up from Brighton seafront, Rolla Riot will provide not just a frenzied spinning of cranks but also an all night bar and great music. The first of what’s hoped to be an annual event to see who comes out top in the Battle of Brighton, Rolla Riot should be a night to remember. Morvelo and Kinesis will be handing out freebies and frequent spot-prizes like a glass in the face. Rolla Riot want you to bring your best heckle and most powerful legs down to Brighton for some summer sprints this Friday, and when you’re spent on the rollers it’s not too far to stagger down to the beach for a little lie-down, without fear of a deck-chair being smashed over your head.

When - Friday June 10th - 6pm until late.
Where - Heist Bar, 57 West Street, Brighton.
How much - £8 entry fee, spectators and racers alike.

Jo Burt has spent the majority of his life riding bikes, drawing bikes and writing about bikes. When he's not scribbling pictures for the whole gamut of cycling media he writes words about them for road.cc and when he's not doing either of those he's pedaling. Then in whatever spare minutes there are in between he's agonizing over getting his socks, cycling cap and bar-tape to coordinate just so. And is quietly disappointed that yours don't He rides and races road bikes a bit, cyclo-cross bikes a lot and mountainbikes a fair bit too. Would rather be up a mountain.
