In the future everybody will have their own bike lane – in Prague someone already has +video

The 'laser light lane' lives… … no messy paint required...

Two artists from Prague are quite literally highlighting the dearth of cycle lanes in the Czech capital after hooking up a pico projector to a bicycle to illuminate a cycle lane, complete with bike marking, onto the road ahead.

Devised by Vladimír Turner and Ondřej Mladý, their efforts have been captured in a short film by Turner and Jakub Vlček, which shows the portable cycle lane in action on the streets of Prague.

The film forms part of an installation at the NTK Gallery entitled Safety First that is also featured in a set of pictures uploaded to the photo-sharing site, Flickr.

If the concept looks a familiar one, that may be because you've seen past coverage here on road.cc of the award winning Laser Light Lane.

The message that the Czech artists are seeking to convey is reinforced by shots of fast-moving cars nipping past the rider, although it is perhaps undermined at the end of the film when the cyclist himself dodges pedestrians at speed as he zips across the city’s Charles Bridge.

"Ha ha, Czechs - I lived in Prague for seven years - are often unmatched in visual style. While we can assume the creators of this did not want the bike riding on pedestrian spaces to be taken literally as anything other than a comment that pedestrians get space and provision and cyclists mostly do not - fair enough, cycling in Prague is tough for many people - please note the corporate sponsor of the project: 3M, which is making big gobs of cash from hyper-illumination http://greenideafactory.blogspot.com/2010/09/dont-believe-hyper-illumina.... One thing Czechs also tend to excel at is being the objects of the most foul corporate imagery manipulation."
