Photographer and graphic designer Nick Hand provides us with a fascinating insight into the art of leather bicycle saddle-making (Brooks saddles to be precise) with the latest in his series of soundslide interviews.

Hand, 52, who is preparing to embark on a cycling tour around the coast of Britain conducting interviews with bike makers and other craft-based businesses as he goes, visited the West Bromwhich factory of legendary saddle maker Brooks Saddles.

Watch the resulting piece here, which combines still photographs with sound recordings and interviews collected at the Brooks factory. See our previous road.cc story to see how he got on at Charge Bikes, and Argos Racing Cycles.

For more details on Hand’s round Britain tour, visit his website: www.nickhand.co.uk

Excellent! Really gives you a sense of the people behind the saddles.

Brooks have that a definite sort of upper class English image so brill to hear all those West Bromwhich accent.
