Cadel Evans' BMC SLR01 up for auction

The bike that the Aussie rode in the Geelong World Champs could be yours...

If you're looking to own a slice of cycling history, then head over to excellent Aussie road cycling site Cycling Tips for a look at what they're selling off for charity. Yup, that's Cadel Evans' BMC Team Machine SLR01 bike, the one he rode as defending World Champion in the 2010 Geelong World Championships and also at the 2010 Giro di Lombardia. And it can be yours for, well, a considerable amount of money, probably.

If you actually want to ride the bike then you'll need to be a pocket rocket like its previous owner: Cadel rides a 50cm frame. The SLR01 uses BMC's excellent Streampost system as opposed to an integrated seatmast, so there's a bit of room for adjustment. Kit is pro-level, as you'd expect: 11spd Super Record, Easton EC90 Carbon tubular wheelset, and of course a nice long stem. The bike as pictured is wearing Cadel's race number from the Giro di Lombardia but you'll also get his World Championships race plate as part of the deal.

The bike is being auctioned in aid of the Mansarovar Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal, where Cadel and his wife Chiara sponsor a child. The Academy is home to 250 students and they're currently raising funds to buy their schoolhouse; the cash from the SLR01 should go some way to realising that dream.

The bike is actually in Melbourne but offers are invited from anywhere in the world, and BMC can arrange shipping for the bike (at the buyer's expense). If you're in the hood, you can go and check the SLR01 out at Bike Gallery, 74 Auburn Pde, Hawthorn East, Melbourne.

The auction closes on 3 May. Happy bidding!
