Film charts Parisian fixie scene – watch it here +video
City of Lights brings French twist to fixie culture
Le v lo de Papi fait de la r sistance.jpg
Proof that fixie culture is a truly international phenomenon, and that hipsters or bicycle messengers look pretty much the same in Paris as they do, say in London, reaches us via a rather charming short film from France called Le vélo de Papi fait de la résistance.
The film, by Coline Madec, charts the fixie movement, Parisan-style, in all its versions, including bike polo, riders pulling tricks, bike couriers or simply people who love the purity of the riding experience.
The subtitles may be a little ropey at times - the chap in the rather nice 60s egg chair may be quoting Sartre, for all we know - but the film is beautifully shot, so go make yourself a cup of tea, pull up a chair and sit back and enjoy it for the next 20 minutes.
It is vendredi après-midi, after all.

Worth 20 minutes of anyones time!
Being a died in the wool seventy three year old fixed gear fanatic, ( stil doing track league in Manchester) I found this to be just brilliant, just wish I was young enough to master the tricks of some of these guys.

These guys could have been transported directly from London to Paris! Uncanny! Some sweet rides there: love the silver Bianchi. Dying to get a fixie for my commute, but there's a huge hill in the way....I'd never get the gearing right...
