Residents get financial incentive to go by bike

Imagine getting a discount in your local pub simply for having got there by bike.

A pilot scheme in the Bradfield area near Sheffield means locals will see a financial incentive to use their bikes to get to pubs, cafes and other businesses, reports the Sheffield Telegraph.

The discounts are available to families, teenagers, commuters and pupils who have participated in cycle training run Pedal Ready.

Participant businesses in the ‘I Bike Bradfield’ project include the Our Cow Molly dairy, Rhinegold garden centre café in the Loxley Valley, the Postcard café at Low Bradfield, the Robin Hood pub at Stannington and Bradfield farmers market café. Typical discounts can be 10% off or a free soft drink, for example.

Funding for the scheme come from the Peak District National Park Authority, which is seeking to give cycling a boost in the in advance of opening the Monsal Trail between Bakewell and Buxton.
