Teams announced for Halfords Tour Series 2011

Three new teams, guest teams and Magnus Backstedt on the 2011 start line

The 10 teams that will battle it out over the 10 rounds of this year's Halford's Tour Series were announced today by series organisers SweetSpot.

Among the 10 are last year's series winners Motorpoint Pro Cycling with a squad that includes the evergreen Malcolm Elliott, he won't the only cycling legend doing his thing in this year's edition former Paris Roubaix winner Magnus Backstedt will be there too leading Team UK Youth, and will no doubt relish any cobbled sections the organisers can throw his way.

Other new teams competing are Orbea Twenty3C and Wilier – GoSelfDrive.com. The full list of teams of invited is:

As well as the 10 teams that will race every roundSweetspot have also invited three guest teams to race up to two rounds of the series each the idea being to help them with their development the guest teams are:
Felt – Colbournes Racing Team
Team Corley Cycles
Team Herbalife Wheelbase

Commenting on the team lineup series director Mick Bennett said:
“We would like to thank all the teams who applied to enter the Series for the time and effort put into their presentations,” says Bennett.
 
“It was a very close and hard decision as to who the final ten teams should be; hence our decision that we should give the three unsuccessful teams the opportunity to still be a part of The Halfords Tour Series.
 
“Ultimately though we have chosen the ten teams which we believe will be the strongest and best represented in 2011 and have every confidence that they will put on a close and action packed display of racing across the Series.”

Full details of The Halfords Tour Series and supporting Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix Series will be announced in the next month with the racing scheduled to get underway in May.

There will definitely be some good racing after seeing some of the guys in the winter series!
