Anthony Maynard sportive nominates four charities

Third edition will offer 110 and 195km options

This year's Anthony Maynard Sportive will support the charities Helen & Douglas House, RoadPeace, the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance and the World Society for the Protection of Animals.

Those organisations will receive all proceeds from the event which is promoted by Reading Cycling Club and scheduled for Sunday July 17.

Event Director John Hollands said: “As well as enjoying a fantastic day of tough, challenging cycling, everyone riding the event will know that all profits from the day will be going to very worthwhile causes, I am delighted that we can continue to support charities that reflect Anthony’s interests.”

John continued “The 2010 event was a great success; we had superb feedback from the riders and in our first two years we have raised over £11,000 in support of the event charities. It really is a fitting tribute to Anthony and his love of cycling.

"This year, we want to it be even better. The lumpy 110km and intense 195km courses will show everyone just how great Berkshire and Wiltshire Downs riding can be. We’ve also got terrific facilities at the Theale Green HQ: well organised parking, changing rooms and showers along with plenty of space for riders to use pre and post event.

"The entries are rolling in, so I would urge riders to enter now to guarantee a place – not only will they be riding one of the toughest events in the South East, they will also be helping a good cause just by entering the event.”

Organised by his club mates, the event is being held to honour Reading Cycling Club’s Anthony Maynard who, aged 25, tragically lost his life in July 2008 when struck by a vehicle whilst cycling in a club ride.

We participated last year and can vouch for it as one of the most enjoyable on the sportive calendar, particularly if you prefer smaller, non-commercial events.
