Evans Cycles have released a new UK-only series of Team road bikes that are all priced below the £1000 mark.
The bikes, which are exclusive to Evans, are based around Fuji’s best-selling Roubaix custom double-butted alloy frame. They each come with a high-modulus carbon fork with an alloy steerer, and compact (34/50T) chainsets.
The top-level Team 1.0, (top) which retails at £999.99 and so just nips inside the limit for tax-free Cycle to Work schemes, is 10-speed 105 with FSA’s Gossamer Pro chainset, Tektro R540 brakes, and Alex ALX-200 wheels. On paper it looks excellent value for money although we’ve not yet given any of the bikes a spin.
The bikes are slightly different from Fuji’s official 2011 Roubaixs, the main distinctions being that they use a straight 1 1/8in head tube rather than the tapered version found on the Roubaix 1.0 and 2.0, and they come with FSA chainsets as opposed to Shimano models. This has allowed Evans to keep the prices down and hit the price points they wanted.
Evans are aiming the range at “selective racers or riders targeting longer days in the saddle”.”
