Yes, we know, we’re still just about clinging to the last vestiges of autumn and with the prospect of an entire winter ahead it’s hard to think about spring but, unless the idea of riding an early season sportive in quintessentially English countryside doesn’t appeal, perhaps you should.
That’s because the Cotswold Spring Classic is now open for entries and, by now into its third year, the event is a popular season-opener for many sportive riders so it may pay to secure your place now. For 2011 it retains its familiar Easter Monday slot, which next year is April 25. The date gives riders the opportunity to make the most of the extra day off work with a long ride and some great early season miles.
The route for the 2011 event has received a few tweaks, say the organisers, bringing back some of the sections of the 2009 event, and throwing in some completely new ones which, they say, should ensure entries from previous years get to experience even more of the best roads in the Cotswolds.
As in previous years the routes benefit from two well stocked feed stations (one on the shorter route), NEG MediBike motorcycle outrider support, neutral service (provided by Performance Cycles), a rider goodie bag, free hot food when you finish and much more.
The Cotswold Spring Classic has both a 100km route providing some good early season miles with some challenging climbs thrown in, as well as a 160km option which increases the amount of climbing and increases the challenge.
