Geraint Thomas, a member of Great Britain’s gold medal-winning team pursuit squad at the Beijing Olympics, will return to the track later this month in the next round of the Revolution Championship at the Manchester Velodrome.
The 24-year-old from Cardiff, who has also won a World Championship in the event and is the current British National Road Race Champion, will lead Team Sky on the Manchester track on Saturday 20 November, lining up alongside team mates Peter Kennaugh and Ben Swift.
“I’m looking forward to getting on the track and racing as Team Sky at Revolution,” said Thomas. “It’s great that the event has evolved and I think the team idea is good. It will change the way we approach the racing so we’ll all be focused on keeping Sky at the top of the table.”
Team Sky are current leaders of the Revolution Championship thanks to a strong showing by Chris Hoy at the season opener last month, and with the emphasis now shifting to the endurance events, Thomas is confident that he can help consolidate the outfit’s lead.
However, they will face stiff opposition with top Continental track racers likely to feature among rival teams, Michael Morkov, Alex Rasmussen, Franco Marvulli, Leif Lampater, Christian Grassmann and Sebastian Donadio.
“There are some great European guys coming over for the occasion,” Thomas admitted, “but I’m just going to enjoy it. Revolution will be a good way for me to get back in the track mindset against some top riders. I’m already thinking ahead to the World Cup in February and this will help me figure out where my form is now, and where it needs to be.”
Tickets for the event cost between £15 and £16.50 and can be purchased here.
