Manchester United FC mark #WorldBicycleDay ... with bicycle kicks compilation

We'll be back to covering stuff on two wheels in the morning, but in the meantime, enjoy the skills...

Bicycle kicks seem to be quite the dernier cri in the world of football. They’ve been around for more than a century, of course, pioneered in Latin America, and Pelé was a leading executioner of them in the early 1960s when your writer was nothing more than a glint in the eyes of a couple who had just met in an Edinburgh pub.

What we’ve noticed here at road.cc though, is that over the past 12 months or so, references to them are cropping up again and again when we are searching for bicycle-related news to bring you.

It’s perhaps fitting then, that cycling and football come together courtesy of Manchester United FC who, to mark today’s inaugural United Nations World Bicycle Day, have produced a video compilation of some of the best bicycle kicks performed by their players over the years.

You don’t even have to be a United fan to enjoy the skills on offer (though if you’re a fan of teams the goals are scored against [waves at road.cc editor Tony] you may wish to look away now.

We’ll be back to normal service covering all things two-wheeled in the morning – including a bit more about what happened around the globe on #WorldBicycleDay involving actual, you know, bicycles – but in the meantime, we hope you can enjoy the athleticism on display.
