“Put us out of our misery” – wife of cyclist found dead in Northern Ireland appeals for information

The wife of a cyclist found dead in Northern Ireland has appealed for anyone who knows what happened to her husband to get in touch with police and "put us out of our misery."

The body of David Helliwell, aged 55 and from Tandragee, County Armagh, was found on the Drumnamether Road on Thursday evening but the circumstances of his death are unclear.

His wife Wendy told Q Radio News: "We loved each other so much and I am lost without him.

"My husband was a lovely man who gave a lot for the community. He worked in a home for mentally and physically handicapped adults – he was caring.”

Appealing for information about what happened, she said: "We don't know yet whether it was a hit and run, an accident or a sudden death – we are still waiting for post-mortem results.

"However, anybody knows anything please, please call the police and put us out of our misery we would love to know.

 “I don't care if it was a sudden death or an accident but it would be nice to know,” she added.

Inspector Leslie Badger of the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: “This incident occurred shortly after 7.30pm.

“I am appealing that anyone who was travelling on the Drumnamether Road around this time and who witnessed anything, or anyone who may have a dashcam fitted in their vehicle check their footage and contact local officers on 101 quoting reference number 1208 31/05/2018.
