Blackpool Nocturne: Top Class cycling racing comes to the seaside tonight

Top class bike racing comes to Blackpool this evening in the shape of the Blackpool Nocturne, the last round of the popular night time race series that kicked off in June in Smithfield and then headed up to Edinburgh.

Tonight's Nocturne finale in Blackpool will see a top class field of cycling talent lining up at the start including last year's winner, Ed Clancy MBE of Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta, a team that also boasts, Ian Bibby the winner of the Smithfield round of the series.

They will be up against Tour de France stage winner Rubens Bertogliati, Edinburgh Nocturne winner Kristian House, Sigma Sport – Specialized’s Simon Richardson and Rapha Condor Sharp’s Chris Newton, oh and of course the Kuota-road.cc team too.

There is also a full complement of support races to the main event including a
Dahon folding bike race, youth's race. There's also a hire bike race giving members of the public the change to get involved in the action. After getting on the bikes and racing around the circuit, the winner will be the rider who is the first to successfully put their bike back into a docking station at the finish (be interesting if you tried to hold a race like that in London at the moment - ed).

Heats will lead to a grand final with limited spaces for spectators to sign up on the night. Blackpool keen to promote the fact that it hit the ground running with its hire bike scheme well before London, the Blackpool hire fleet is slated to expand to 500 by the end of the summer – so not long now then.

Racing starts at 6PM with the Elite Race slated to get underway at 8.45PM.
