Laura Kenny named Sportswoman Of The Year for historic medal haul

Paralympian athlete and cyclist Kadeena Cox also honoured in Sunday Times ceremony

Laura Kenny (neé Trott) has been named the 2016 Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year, a recognition of her stunning successes in the omnium and team pursuit events in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Writing on Instagram, the most decorated British female Olympian of all time said: “Thank you so much for everybody’s support over the last year. So honoured to be Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.”

The 24 year old, who now holds four gold medals, was up against the likes of Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey, taekwondo gold medallist Jade Jones and boxer Nicola Adams.

Kadeena Cox, a Paralympic athlete who took home golds in both cycling and athletics at Rio, was named Paralympian of the Year.

Another cycling dong went to Kirsty Cameron, the founder of the Ladies Leisurely Cycles Facebook group, who took the Community Award.
