Police seek cyclist who assaulted fellow rider who came to his help

Incident happened in Colchester on 26 October after alleged assailant fell from bike

Police in Essex have issued an appeal to track down a cyclist who allegedly assaulted another rider who had come to his help after he fell from his bike.

According to the Daily Gazette, which published a picture of the suspect, the incident happened at approximately 8am on the morning of Wednesday 26 October.

An Essex Police spokesman commented: "A man came to the aid of a fellow cyclist who had fallen off his bike only to be assaulted and struck with the suspect’s bike."

Anyone who has information about the suspect is requested to call PC Dex Adams of Colchester police station on 101.

I was advised on a first aid course via work not to help in public unless it is someone elderly. They said call an ambulance instead as people are sometimes hostile towards your help, with people being accused of being a paedophile for helping children and assaulted by adults who are drunk or on drugs. Now I know why people often walk on by!

There's always a chance that if they've been assaulted, the assailant might still be in the area and might have a go at you, too.

First rule of first aid/rescue - protect yourself.

The photo of the assailant must help. I was always told not to hit people wearing glasses.

Probably hoping for actual witnesses or people  who know about the incident to come forward rather than internet warriors?

Well, I'd say that their chances are slim based on the road.cc version. Essex is quite a big place, Colchester does increase your chances somewhat to 1;121,000 levels. If we factor in gender and adult population we could probably get it down to a more useful level. But it is odd, we get pics on road.cc of every incident, why not this one? It does seem rather important to carry the photo OR link to the piece.

Seems like Road.cc forgot to include the item that makes this a story. A photo. http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/14849709.Cyclist_assaulted_in_Colches...
