Fajitas with your Farrar? Worcester restaurant shows Tour de France live

Mexican food and Belgian beer, with the Tour on TV - what's not to like?...

Cycling fans in London are well-catered for this year when it comes to finding a place to watch Tour de France action in the company of like-minded souls through the Rapha Cycle Club and Look Mum No Hands, both previously featured here on road.cc and from today their counterparts in Worcester have somewhere to watch the race while grabbing a bite to eat, too.

Found on New Street, Chesters Restaurant, owned by cycling fan Dave Worland, focuses on Mexican food plus a list of beers that appropriately enough given the Tour’s Grand Depart in the Low Countries this year includes some of Belgium’s best brews – perfect for those who want to swig a Chimay while watching Chavanel, or munch on a Fajita as they follow Farrar.

Dave, who has run the restaurant for more than a decade, says the restaurant has a courtyard that will provide secure bike parking, and will be showing live ITV4 coverage of the Tour throughout the next three weeks, as well as some classic action from past editions of the race in the evenings.

“It just seemed like an obvious thing to do,” he told us, “not particularly as a money making thing but because I love watching the Tour and I think it’s time UK cycling culture started to celebrate its obvious link with good food and drink. We’re always busy in the evenings anyway but with ITV4 covering the Tour live during the afternoons too I thought this was a good time to open all day and set up the place for cycling fans to enjoy”.

I can't believe there aren't more places like this - even the two London venues mentioned are only really coffee shops. Surely there should be plenty of bar/brasserie type places that could show the cycling?

Good man! We need more like this man round the country. Would be even more enjoyable to watch the racing along with other fans/cyclists. Quite envious.

I love my home city of Stoke but to be honest even football fans are the height of culture and achievement round here.
