Lance Armstrong gives heckler short shrift in Luxembourg

"Fan" declines Texan's invitation to repeat "liar, cheat" taunt to his face...

Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong was given a rather vocal reminder of Floyd Landis’s recent allegations of drug use against him yesterday at the conclusion of the Tour of Luxembourg, in which the Texan finished third overall.

Following a final stage cut short due to stormy weather, a spectator twice yelled “liar, cheat!” at Armstrong, with the Team RadioShack rider responding by shouting “come and do that to my face” three times, reports the Guardian.

Talking about the race itself, Armstrong said: "It's been a good four days. I felt strong. Any time you can win a race, be on a podium, in preparation, it's important. I wouldn't have thought I would ride so strong this week."

Italy’s Matteo Carrara, once with Lampre and Quick Step but now racing for the Dutch outfit Vacansoleil, clinched the overall title.

Armstrong, who has had a disrupted build-up to his quest for an eight Tour de France title due to illness and the effects of a crash in the Tour of California, will continue his preparations for next month’s race by competing in the week-long Tour of Switzerland, which starts on Saturday.

“There are longer climbs, longer time trials," said Armstrong. "I think we have to make a good progression from here, to Switzerland and the Tour."

Did he? Didn't he? Damned if I know, but he surely has the front to beat down his detractors.
