Appeal following death of cyclist during Telford event

Rider is believed to have suffered a medical episode

West Mercia Police have appealed for witnesses following the death of a cyclist during an organised event in Telford on Sunday.

The 52-year-old man was cycling along the B5063 towards Telford at around 12.30pm. When he was near to the junction with the B5062 near Cotwall Farm, at Cotwall, he left his bike and collided with a hedge where he was found by other road users. The man was later pronounced dead at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

It is believed that the cyclist suffered a medical episode, but police would like to hear from anyone who either witnessed the collision or has other information which could help them with their enquiries.

If you have any information, you can contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 0292S of January 24.
