Giro d'Italia Stage 6: Aussie Lloyd brave lone victory after first hills

Not exactly mountains yet but enough to shake out the sprinters

Matthew Lloyd (Omega Pharma-Lotto) attacked his long-standing breakaway companion Rubens Bertogliati (Androni Giocattoli) towards the top of the last climb of today's 6th stage of the Giro d'Italia with 11km still to go and time-trialled in for the predominantly downhill finish.

Bertogliati came in 2nd on his own just over a minute later but with the peleton seconds behind where Danilo Hondo won the bunch sprint.

On this 172km stage from Fidenza to Marina di Carrara, Briton David Millar moved up to seventh overall as the sprinters Greipel and Goss dropped away on the climbs.
