Electric Bike magazine launches August

Electric bikes get their own magazine and website

Publishers of a new magazine Electric Bike claim it will be the first consumer magazine worldwide dedicated to the fast-growing market for electric-assisted bikes. The first issue will be out in August 2010 and published quarterly.

Electric Bike is a spin-off from Velo Vision magazine which celebrates 10 years and 40 issues later in the year.

According to Velo Vision Editor and Publisher Peter Eland, "Direct requests from electric bike industry figures for more e-bike coverage convinced us that the time is right to launch a dedicated publication for this growing sector of the market."

Electric Bike will be free and distributed via participating dealers and and to the 2,500+ enthusiast subscribers to Velo Vision magazine. Postal subscriptions will be available for readers worldwide and there will also be full and free online edition and website.

Promising "Clear jargon-busting and beginner-friendly buying advice as well as news from the electric bike world on products, events and more,  Peter Eland continues, "This is an exciting time for the UK electric bike industry and Electric Bike will be an essential part of its future. We're confident of strong industry support to make this magazine a real boost to the whole electric bike sector."

There will be a public launch of the new magazine this Saturday 8th May at the
Tour de Presteigne Electric Bike Rally.

Even for proper cyclists there's a future for 'em.

If you live on a big hill and want to toodle into town in your civvies for the post office and some groceries there's a lot to be said for a bit of silent assistance as long as the bike looks like a nice traditional sit-up-and-beg roadster and not a Powabyke.

Whenever I overtake an electrically assisted bike, I always have a careful look at the rider to see if I can spot what their disability is!

went to the Forest of Dean for a family bike jaunt over the bank hols and the number of people collapsed in a heap trying to cycle the 1% grade of the family trail had me despairing for humanity. I expect they'll all be potential electric bike owners 1

I'm a fan of electric bikes personally. If it means someone's not using a car for a short trip then that's progress, and to a car driver it's another bike and a bit more awareness.

Velovision is a superb magazine - it's like the 'Bizarre' of the bike mag world. Will be renewing my subscription when I get back from holiday.

Wow, what an amazingly rude comment. Is "cat" by any chance short for "catty?" And Cat, when you go past people in wheelchairs, do you also stare at them to see if you can spot what their disability is?

Personally, I find the arrogance and lack of compassion shown by a minority of fit, healthy young cyclists to be quite appalling. There are many, many people who are cycling while in their 90's or more, or after having titanium springs put in their hearts, or after organ transplants or receiving new hips or knees - all thanks to the magic of electric bikes. Cycling is NOT only for the young and the fit, it should be for everyone, and electric bikes are helping to make this dream a reality. Moreover, as another poster points out, the more cyclists, the more visible cyclists are to drivers, and therefore the safer we all are - thus helping to keep cyclists like Cat out of wheelchairs (or, heaven forbid, away from the "shame" of an electric bike).

I believe passionately in electric bikes, and just wrote an entire book about how to choose the right one from the plethora of great choices: "Average Joe Cyclist: How to Choose the Right Electric Bike", available on Kindle (http://tinyurl.com/b3zbrv6). On my blog, I also write about the joys of all kinds of cycling, including electric bikes - http://averagejoecyclist.com/
