Flying Scotsman signs deal to rewrite autobiography

Everyone's favourite local hero of hour-record fame Graeme Obree is riding high again having signed a deal to rewrite his autobiography, The Flying Scotsman.
Today he told Scotland's Daily Record,"All my life I have been driven by a fear of failure but that has changed. Today, I feel better than I've ever felt."
After struggling with depression and now 44, Obree's emphasis is on getting children cycling, having given up on reclaiming the World Hour Record he last took in 1994. "We have to get our kids off the streets and out riding their bikes, or doing something sporty. Either that or influence our politicians to put less money into elite things and more into ground level."
I wasn't a fan of Obree until I read his book as I didn't understand what he was about and why he concentrated so much on the bike itself. It's an incredibly honest book and I really wish him well as he's come through a lot and deserves some more good fortune.
Nice one Graeme, make sure you get some proper money for it this time!

Graham O'Bree, a real hero, eccentric or not. Followed his career, brilliant, read the book, fantastic, just seen the film of his cycling life, again brilliant. However the best bit of history was the BBC documentary, Boardman versus O'Bree, that was a fly on the wall doc, nothing set up just real life as it happened drama. I was fortunate enough to tape it at the time, a real gem, if anyone can get it do so, you can learn so much about dedication to sport.

I think his book and the subsequent film have made a lot of people, including me, belatedly aware of the significance of his achievements.
