road.cc Wants YOU!

Your chance to pull on the plaid and join the team at road.cc

Want to do something new in 2009?
Fancy a career in bike journalism?
… Not motivated by money?

If you can answer “yes” to those questions (particularly the last one) we'd like to hear from YOU!

road.cc is recruiting and we need someone to join the team as a staff writer. The job would be part time at first (five half days a week), but we would be aiming to make it a full time position in the coming months.

So, what does the ideal candidate need to be able to do?

  • Write in a punchy, informative and amusing style for the web (so not like this then) and be able to sub-edit copy quickly.
  • Ride a bike (quite important but not vital – especially if we can get a video series of you learning to ride out of it!)
  • Be really interested in cycling and really, really interested in learning even more about cycling… that'll be road cycling in all its many and varied forms. Being interested in other types of cycling is cool too.

What we are offering

  • A desk
  • A plaid jersey
  • The chance to learn even more about cycling and cycle journalism
  • The chance to play a part in building Britain's best road cycling website… that'll be this one
  • Responsibility: you will write, edit and post your own stories and you will play a big part in the editorial direction and development of road.cc
  • Some money, but don't get too excited
  • Coffee (or tea)
  • Cake

We are based in Bath in the beautiful West Country, and ideally you're not too far away from there yourself cos it helps with team-bonding, tea-making and the like. BUT this is the world wide web we're talking about here so distance won't be a problem if we really think you are the right person  – it wouldn't even matter if you were in Bristol or even Weston Super Mare… or even further than that, if such places exist.

What do next…
If you are interested in joining the road.cc team email tony [at] road.cc and tell the man with the comedy moustache a little bit about yourself, the type(s) of cycling you are interested in, and why you want the job. Oh, and attach a CV and some examples of any similar work you've done (it doesn't have to be cycling related).

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.
