Cavendish returns to form after Catalonia second stage win

Mass sprint to the line breaks Cav's duck...

Mark Cavendish has finally broken his duck - and hopefully put ongoing dental problems behind him – by winning the second stage of the Tour of Catalonia.

The Manxman, whose season has been disappointing so far, came through on the 182.6 kilometres stage between Salt and Banyoles in northeastern Spain, edging Argentina's Juan Jose Haedo and Spain's Aitor Galdos to the line in a mass sprint finish.

Germany's Paul Voss remains the overall leader after winning Monday's time trial.

Yesterday's win was Cavendish's first stage victory since he competed in the Tour of Missouri in September. At the weekend he finished 89th in the Milan-San Remo one-day classic, which he won in 2009.

This year's Tour of Catalonia is missing some big names, including Alberto Contador and Olympic gold medalist Bradley Wiggins.

Contador, who recently claimed his second victory in the Paris-Nice stage race, was scheduled to race in Catalonia but decided to change his plans last week.
