Driver charged with causing death of cyclist by dangerous driving in London

Jan Junaid was charged with causing death by dangerous driving of David Blake in Whitechapel, East London, last December

A man has been charged with causing the death of a cyclist by dangerous driving.

Jan Junaid was charged yesterday with causing the death of David Blake by dangerous driving on Leman Street in Whitechapel, East London, in December last year.

Junaid was bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on 22 July

Blake was knocked off his bike on 6 December 2014, and died in hospital the following day.

Friends at the time said Blake had become a "cycling addict", who rode to work each day after giving up motorcycling because he feared it was too dangerous. Tributes were paid to Blake by those who knew him, including a close friend Liam Earle, who called him “one of the craziest, loveliest men you would ever wish to meet.”

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: "Jan Junaid, 47 (11.4.68) of Ellen Street, E1 was charged on Wednesday, 24 June, with causing the death of David Blake, 57, by dangerous driving in Leman Street, Whitechapel on 6 December 2014."
