Aldi cycling sale this Sunday features £11.99 bib shorts and much more
Discount supermarket Aldi is holding another one of its popular Special Buiys cycling sales this Sunday and among the highlights are bib shorts costing just £11.99, softshell jackets for £15.99 and cycling glasses for £1.99.
Brand new in the cycling Special Buy sale, which are taking place with increasing frequency, are these new men and women’s padded bib shorts (£11.99). They feature a padded insert made in Italy, the shorts are made from Lycra and they have a mesh back panel to keep you cool. There are also reflective details to help you be seen on the road.
Also new are these Premium Cycling Shoe (£24.99), which from the photos - because there are very few technical details to go on - look like a mountain bike shoe with an aggressive treaded sole. The website says they’re compatible with most common pedal systems, we’re taking a punt that means two-bolt SPD clipless pedals. Mountain bike clipless shoes are ideal for commuting and touring duties so these look just the ticket for that sort of cycling.
This Premium Cycling Shirt (£14.99) is available for men and women and comes in different colours. With the temperature gradually increasing as we head towards summer, this will be a popular item. It’s a short sleeve jersey with a full-length YKK zipper and features mesh inserts for ventilation and a dropped tail.
A Softshell Cycling Jacket (£15.99) is a really good investment when it’s a bit cooler and this one is really versatile, as the arms zip off turning it into a gilet. It’s available for men and women in a choice of colours and has a zipped chest pocket and rear pocket, a tall collar and dropped tail, and there are plenty of reflective details.
The cheapest product in this Aldi Special Buys are these Cycling Glasses - they cost just £1.99. They’re available in a choice of frame designs, both half and full frame, and with a range of lens tints to choose from. The lenses provide 100% UV protection and are shatterproof and scratch resistant

Don’t forget to get there early if you are planning on going, as the products often sell out quickly and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Done a couple thousand miles in aldi shorts - in 40 mile chunks. Not exactly rapha but fine for short rides. The softshell is a bit hit-and-miss - the basic version from about three years ago is still going strong, but last year's version was a rubbish fit
Soft shell and bibs for commuting. Also pick up a couple of pairs of socks they are really good. The MTB gloves are not bad either.
I'm not tempted by the shoes yet. But I do need a new pair for commuting duties to replace a very battered pair.
For commuting gear you can't beat these prices.
I've got one of those soft shell jackets and have done several thousand commuting miles in it through all kinds of crap weather. Warm as toast and in the same condition as the day I bought it... amazing value.
If the pad in the bibs isn't too cardboard like I'll have a pair for the commute as well
Tempted by the bibs for £12 too, as I need a pair for summer commuting. If last year's winter bib tights are any measure, the pad will be good enough for short rides, but I wouldn't want to wear them for 3 hours.
I've also got a previous year's softshell which is still going strong, looks the same as the blue one here but without the chest pocket. Fit is decent, certainly accurate for the sizing with a jersey/base layer underneath. Only complaint is that the arms are a touch too short.
I might try a set of the bibs. Having a couple of pairs to cycle through the wash on busy weeks would be good even if the fit and pad aren't perfect.
Shoes look pretty poor, jacket looks good and jerseys are jerseys. Glasses are a similar price to safety specs so no real saving for budget-conscious riders but might be worth a look.
Don't forget the socks, which I've found to be great. I crashed on mine on Sunday so I'm due a new pair or 2.

At £16 that jacket is just ridiculous value, especially with removable arms. I've had one for years and it refuses to die.
Going to go and pick up some mew glasses - I have a knack of breaking them but at £2 they're disposable.
