Rapha releases Merci Wiggo T-shirt ahead of Paris-Roubaix this weekend

Can Wiggins win the cobbled classic this weekend? Whether he does or not, Rapha celebrates Brit's last race with Team Sky with special t-shirt

Rapha has released this commemorative Merci Wiggo T-shirt to celebrate the last race of Bradley Wiggins in Team Sky colours at Paris-Roubaix this weekend, a race which the first British winner of the Tour de France has said winning would mean a “fairytale ending” to his career.

“I’d love to win, don’t get me wrong. I’m not sitting here saying I’d accept ninth place, but to have a clean run through the race, no crashes – I had one wheel change last year, which wasn’t a puncture, a broken wheel in Arenberg – you know, I didn’t have any sort of mishaps, I was just there,” said Wiggins.

Bradley Wiggins has raced with Team Sky for the past five years and “has led Team Sky to the highest of highs” says Rapha. The special t-shirt features a hybrid of the Mod target symbol, which Wiggins has proudly displayed on his equipment over the years, with the unique mounted cobble prize of Paris-Roubaix. On the back of the t-shirt is printed his Team Sky palmarès.

Wiggins has made clear his ambition to win Paris-Roubaix. He said in an interview recently that winning the cobbled classic “would be bigger in my eyes at this moment” than compared to his victory in the 2012 Tour de France. He says Paris-Roubaix would be the perfect way to finish his time at Team Sky and the segment of his career during which road racing has been his top priority.

The Merci Wiggo T-shirt costs £20 and is available in five sizes.

I can't help but feeling that some things should be left until after the event.

Like last weeks raving about the new Pinarellos, just wait until something is won before cock crowing about it. I mean, of what relevance is a stylised cobble to Wiggins career if he bins it or has a shit race (or even if others have very good races) on Sunday?

Perhaps it's just me.

Lots of things can go wrong, that's why you shift as many units as possible before they do.

Rapha tweeted that the first twenty customers in the Manchester cycle club on Sunday to say 'Merci Wiggo' get a free t-shirt.

Yank here. I hope Wiggo pulls it off. He's far more "real" than almost anyone else n cycling these days, for good or bad. I'll miss him when he's gone.

"Merci Wiggo"? Odd sentiment IMHO.

He didn't do it for 'us', he did it for himself, make no mistake.

But I am hoping that he gets a good run at it on Sunday.
