Champion fundraiser cycles corridors of power

Downing Street visit for Charlie

A young boy whose cycle fundraising efforts for Haiti has now passed the £175k mark cycled through the most famous address in the country.

Seven year old Charlie Simpson pedalled his bike around the corridors of Number 10 Downing Street during a private visit.

Gordon Brown was away in Northern Ireland, so the PM's wife Sarah gave Charlie and his parents the grand tour. "Charlie reminds us what just one person can do,” she told the Mirror.

Charlie aimed to raise £500 for Unicef by cycling around his local park in Fulham, London, but his efforts captured the public's imagination and, as donations pour in, he's now heading for a cool quarter of a million for the earthquake-hit island.
