Vital link in Wessex Cycle Route given go-ahead

Route will link North Somerset with Devon and Dorset

An important part of a cycle route that will eventually link Weston-super-Mare with Dorset and Devon has been approved.

Plans for a cycle path between Brean and Weston have been given the go-ahead by Sedgemoor District Council, to be used as part of a national cycle network.

The new Wessex Cycle Route will eventually link Weston with Seaton and Lyme Regis, with cyclists passing through Brean and Burnham.

The 100km route is designed to raise the status of cycling by providing numerous community links and will become a flagship for sustainable transport and tourism throughout North Somerset and Somerset.

Development of the cycle route is being overseen by Sustrans.
