Santos Tour Down Under 2010 Gallery

Blue skies, new Sky and some familiar faces as ProTour rolls down under

We haven't even finished January and the first ProTour race of the season is already done. The big teams got the chance for an early try out of their new bikes and equipment and to run the rule over some of their riders too all in the warm sunshine of a South Australian summer.

As ever when all the pre-season hype finally makes contact with reality it throws up as many questions as answers, we do know that Andre Greipel is definitely back and that HTC Columbia are as powerful a team as ever. Sky, well they looked impressive too, on occasions, the TDU confirmed that there are a lot more variables to control in a road race then there are on the track, but we're guessing they knew that already when they did get it together though - they kicked some serious arse.

The man Lance may be getting old, but he's still got something to offer it would seem, early season events were never his forte but the sponsors got their money's worth and fans of the younger generation were left to ponder on the fact that he looked in pretty good nick. Hungry even.

Next ProTour event is the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in two months time. Yep, the ProTour is back… sort of. In the meantime here's some great pics from last week's race to keep your mind off the grey skies outside.

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

7 Link to launch the pics seems to be rubber ducked as it simply opens another instance of your home page - as nice as that is, I'd like to look at the pics!
If this is a keyboard / seat interface problem I apologise in advance!
