Cavendish hurt in bizarre gaming accident

Wii injury interrupts training schedule

Britian's top road rider, Mark Cavendish, winner of four stages of the 2008 Tour de France and two of the Giro D'italia, has injured himself – playing on his Nintendo Wii. Nasty.

Speaking to Europsport Cavendish explained that he was playing a snowboarding game on the Wii, at home on the Isle of Man,when he fell of the board – well it is supposed to offer a life-like experience.

"It's a pain, but it's a minor injury in the off-season and not a huge problem," the Manxman told Eurosport before adding, "I may have to visit a medic to try and get it sorted out, rather than heading for Tuscany as I'd planned." He does expect to be fit enough to join his Columbia team mates in Majorca later this month as they start their preparations for the 2009 season. No doubt he'll be sticking to Cycling Manager from now on.

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.
