Video: Europcar's Kévin Réza picks up fan's helmet cam

French rider documents a bit of the Epping Forest in unique style after Marcel Sieberg's elbow takes out spectator's camera...

Here's a unique view of part of stage three of the Tour de France, as the race wound its way through the Epping Forest on the way to a sprint finish in the Mall. Europcar's Kévin Réza was involved in the shake-down that day, leading out Bryan Cocquard to a fourth-place finish, but he found time for a bit of fun along the way too.

After a spectator's helmet camera had been knocked to the ground by a 'whoopsie' elbow from Lotto-Belisol's Marcel Sieberg – we'll steer away from the debate on whether the fan was too close or Sieberg's elbow was unneccesary for now – Réza managed to pick the helmet, complete with camera, up from the ground as he raced past. He clearly doesn't stop or even noticeably slow down, so it's a pretty neat trick. There's general hilarity in the peloton thanks to Réza's find – Chris Horner seems particularly impressed – before Réza radios back to the car and drops it off.

And how did the unlucky (or lucky, depending on your point of view) fan get the camera back? "My girlfriend sent Kevin a message via twitter asking if he still had the helmet", he says in the comments on the video. "He replied and then he [or the team, presumably - ed] posted the helmet back to me! What a legend."

No need for the elbow from Sieberg, but it did create a pretty cool vid!
I'm so impressed with the high speed grab - "I've seen it, I must have it!"
I suppose even pro riders need to pass the time with some distractions.

As others have said, I like Reza, I don't know why but he's cool. Looks to be a decent cycle biker too.

I want to know what make of camera that was that took that hit and kept on rolling, obviously without the plastic protective cover that normally muffles the sound.

Sturdy!

Ca, c'etait fantastic.

I particularly like the pick up (which was pretty awesome), the laughing, and the guy in the car saying ebay.

And it has a happy ending.

I know this is hardly breaking news and the current rash of onboard cameras only serve to reinforce it but, from someone who has never raced, these fellas dont half shift do they?
They are just ambling along and not even trying and are going faster than i can ever even imagine.

(Alright, it's more of a shoulder, but I wanted to shoehorn in the paraphrasing of Crocodile Dundee.)

Interesting how on the back of the car headrest you can spot a map of which riders' spare bikes are located where on the roof! Outside slots reserved for Reza, Rolland, Voeckler, Coquard. Quemeneur on the back.

Kevin Reza has fast become one of my favourite riders this year. Him and John Degenkolb just seem to absolutely love their jobs.

Ha, that is great. A nice close up of his crotch for the ladies aswell 24

The one thing I did see from that, was how cramped the guy was in the back of the car.
