2009 the best bits… TR's pick

featuring shaving, cross bikes, Mike's Special Brew, classic steel and lots more...

In the first of a random series of articles between now and the New Year, various members of the road.cc team drag themselves away from the turkey leftovers to pick out their favourite and most memorable bits of  the vast amount of cycling news, reviews, videos and general stuff  that's appeared road.cc in 2009. First up it's out man about London town TR McGowran with his pick of the last 12 months on road.cc. Take it away TR…

Right, here are my top things featured on the site in 2009.

Best launch:Tokyo Fixed, Soho

Most inspiring: 15 year old does end-to-end on a unicycle. It's one thing riding it fixed but on one wheel is makes it a little bit more challenging still.

Top bike review: Genesis day 1, Big Dave

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

The Cancellara "spartacus" downhill video is not available on YouTube due to ASO claiming copyright.
