Evans Cycles gets exclusive UK rights for BMC
Retailer's range will include team bike ridden by World Champ Cadel Evans
World road race champion Cadel Evans will be riding BMC bikes next season following his recent switch from Silence-Lotto, so it’s fitting that Evans Cycles, the retailer that shares his name, has announced exclusive rights to sell the Swiss brand’s bicycles in the UK.
The retailer will be selling a range of road and cyclocross bikes as well as mountain bikes, with some women-specific designs thrown into the mix.
For those with five grand to spare – okay, you get a penny change – and who want to ride the same bike that will be ridden by the rainbow jersey holder next year, as well as team mates such as George Hincapie and Alessandro Ballan, Evans will be stocking BMC’s top end road bike, the 2010 Team Machine SLR 01.
Made with the help of nano technology, the carbon fibre frame employs what BMC calls ‘TCC,’ standing for tuned compliance concept, which it promises gives the bike vertical stability to ensure a rigid but comfortable experience. And to finish the bike off, there is a choice of SRAM Red, Campagnolo Super Record or Shimano Dura Ace groupsets.
For less ambitious riders who are seeking a way into the sport, Evans is offering BMC’s 2010 Streetfire SSX, which comes in at a penny under £1,200, which complements a lightweight frame with Shimano 105. Evans says the bike is ideal “for commuting to work or sportive rides on the weekend.”
Joel Natale, Head Bike Buyer at Evans Cycles, said: “The pedigree of the brand is undoubted and we’ve been very impressed with the quality of the 2010 range. Bringing BMC into the UK and stocking it in our stores is really exciting and offers British cyclists even more choice when it comes to riding top notch bikes. Taking them in direct means we can offer these great bikes at realistic prices.”
