POC reveal new Cerebel aero helmet

Garmin-Sharp will debut new aero helmet at the Giro d’Italia

Swedish company POC have followed the launch of the striking Octal helmet with the brand new Cerebel aero helmet, which will debut with the Garmin-Sharp Pro Cycling Team in the Giro d’Italia.

The company already have the Octal Aero, an aero version of the Octal, in the range but the new Cerebel aims to be even more aerodynamic. It has been developed with help from the Volvo Car Group and WATTS Lab, specialists in aerodynamic research and design.

New to the road cycling market from a background in ski and mountain bike helmets and goggles, POC first arrived on the scene, with quite a splash, with the Tempor time trial helmet, and followed up with the Octal and Octal Aero. The new Cerebel expands their range of offerings, as POC CEO and founder Stefan Ytterborn explains:

“Introducing the Cerebel helmet is about completing our range of road helmets, each developed for a specific purpose. All our four helmets; Octal, Octal Aero, Cerebel and Tempor, are extremely fast in their category, so it is a matter of priorities, conditions, the parcours and personal riding style. What it all comes down to is saving watts and seconds”.

Just how many watts does the new helmet save? POC haven’t released that information yet, but we have contacted them for more details. POC says they have utilised CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and extensive wind tunnel testing with  Volvo Car Group and Garmin-Sharp team riders, including Dan Martin, Jack Bauer and Andrew Talansky in the development of the new helmet.

The new Cerebel helmet will be available in spring 2015, so we've no indication of pricing at this stage. More at www.pocsports.com

Hard to tell from the single picture, but it looks similar to the Bambino but with no ventilation?

Wasn't Cerebel that thing that Professor X uses in The X-Men to communicate with the other mutants? 39
