Regular readers of road.cc will know that for a while now, we’ve been flagging up the Beyond The Peloton series of films, which give a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Cervélo TestTeam’s inaugural season on the ProTour.
Now, hot on the heels of last week’s release of the second film following the team’s progress on this year’s Tour de France, the third has arrived.
With the first two each encompassing one of the first two weeks of the Tour, we were expecting this to be the last instalment covering the race, but with it finishing halfway through the final week, it’s clear there is at least one more in the pipeline.
As with previous films in the series, the footage takes you away from the race action itself and focuses on the day-to-day life of the riders and team staff on the sport’s flagship event.
Among the highlights this time round are the riders’ reaction to the sprint finish on Stage 14 that saw green jersey contender Thor Hushovd lodge a complaint against Mark Cavendish, resulting in the latter’s disqualification, and Jose Gomez Marchante arriving back on the team bus two days later sporting some serious road rash after a crash at between 60 and 70 kilometres an hour as he fetched water from the team car.
Oh, and it turns out that the Hushovd fans we mentioned last time round were singing in English, not Norwegian, all along, though you’ll have to watch the film yourself to discover the lyrics, and have a chuckle at the supporter sporting the green jersey his idol gave him a few days earlier – we’ll leave it to you to decide whether he has the physique to pull it off.
This, and previous episodes in the series, are all available online at www.bartape.net and cover the team’s progression over its 2009 debut season. They can be streamed in various definitions depending on your connection, and there are also versions optimised for the Apple iPhone.
