Met issue appeal after hit-and-run incident leaves Brixton cyclist with serious injuries

The Metropolitan Police has issued an appeal for information after a cyclist in South London suffered a fractured neck and two broken legs when he was hit by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning. The driver of the car involved failed to stop.

The unnamed man, aged 44, was riding across a pedestrian crossing outside Brixton Underground station at 0015hrs on 15 March when he was hit by what police describe as "a dark or black car," pictured in the CCTV image above.

Police say that "these injuries were so serious they were initially treated as life threatening."

Detective Sergeant John Hartfree of the Metropolitan Police's  Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "We need to locate the car involved and speak to the driver as soon as possible.

"The victim was left lying in the road having suffered very serious injuries. I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information, regarding the identity of the driver or whereabouts of the car to contact the Hampton Traffic Unit on 020 8941 9011 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 as a matter of urgency."

There can't have been many Protons of that model and colour in that area on that night. Hope someone can review other cams.

Like southsea says there must be more than one camera in that area that the rozzers could use.... oh hang on that would mean putting in a bit of time and effort, not worth it he's only a bloody cyclist.

They could use other CCTV points in there area to check for dark/black Protons, see if they get a plate on any of them.

There are other CCTV systems at the junction with Stockwell Road and also at the junction with Coldharbour Lane and Acre Lane. If either of those were looking in the right direction then monitoring the systems might be able to pick up a registration plate. In any case, the car isn't such a common model as Protons don't sell as well as they did a few years back.

Send that info to the police.

Send that info to the police.

I submitted it to the Crimestoppers online system. Without a reg plate it won't get them very far I don't think, but it might help, you never know.

Looking at the picture above and seeing how many vehicles and people are about there must be someone who can id the vehicle !

Lets hope the bloke makes a full recovery.
