Video: Ride Wide shows drivers why cyclists need space

Make room, make room!

Ride Wide 1

The week’s almost done, so here’s a video that will put a smile on your face with a public service announcement on behalf of all cyclists, courtesy of Ride Wide Media.

Ride Wide is blogger @veloevol and blogger and Bikeability instructor @Londonneur, and his son.

There really isn’t much else to say, except that apparently the suit is “ideal winter wear” according to Ride Wide. We think we’ll stick with Roubaix and softshells.

Not sure the suit will take on.
But the vid makes a good point.

I have a friend who as just started cycling. He weighs 28st. I sent him the link. His reply is sadly unprintable but his wife is now using it as a screen-saver.

Superb video that has made my day.

Camera work by a road.cc user, it would appear.

Last night I would have considered trading a very loud baby for a really nice bike.

Went on my first ride with a child trailer last week and found the effect similar. I didn't really need more space on the road than usual, but it was definitely easier than usual to claim it.

I can't see the point of the fat suit, drivers who pass too close may still catch the fabric of the suit's extended width and bring him down.
What is needed (apart from greater awareness and patience by drivers) is something that gives the IMPRESSION of wider width on the road rather than the actuality of width.
But then, I'm living in cloud-cuckoo land, aren't I?
