Cannondale CAAD 8 USA with Campag + vintage bikes + coffee machine

by stevemalone   November 12, 2013

Dawes '55' 56cm Reynolds 535 butted tubing. Suntour Luxe Group with Weinman brakes & UK made finishing kit. Everything works A1 but the paintwork needs some TLC. The 55 was made from 1978 to 1981 and only issued in the USA. It is not a touring bike and was designed to challenge the race brands. It failed miserably as after export and US competition taxes etc it cost twice as much as the equivalent Schwinn. Only around 390 were made, all in blue with Luxe groups. It would make a good winter bike, fixie or SS or you could restore it, I have done a Raleigh Ti and have a Kellogs Tour to do so this won't get done and I'm making some room. Weighs in at 10.5kg so good for training but light for a steel race bike. New tape but original 'bulb bud' plugs etc, levers all good, brakes fine. Tyres need changing.

CANNONDALE CAAD 8

Hi,

Price includes postage to you.

Rare and hardly used Cannondale CAAD 8. This is the last of the USA handmade frames and a collectors item. Serial number puts is in the late 2007 production
series and one of the last 50 bikes to be issued with Veloce. The bike has covered around 350 miles from new. It was used in Boston MA for one season then stored
for years. 1 owner from new. I rescued it and after cleaning off 5 years worth of scum and grime and servicing it it's come up lovely. Usual transit/shipping/storagemarks but overall excellent.
TIME Slice Premium Carbon Forks
CAAD 8 USA Handmade Frame
Cannondale Fire 6061 butted stem/44ete bars
New Deda Tape
Full Veloce gruppo with new bb & cables all round - 10 speed
Campy Khamsin Ergo wheelset
New 12-26 cassette
KMC gold hollow link chain - looks rusted but it's not!!
Bontrager Race ti team flow saddle, bit ragged in one corner but fine
New Schwalbe Lugano folders with p.u strip as the old tyres were powder
No pedals

The US made frames are now coming up on Retro Bike etc for very good money, the USA Veloce issued in black seems to have run for 423 units only before production went East. This one still has the safety sticker
on it!
I have a CAAD4 and CAAD5 Saeco, both are still perfectly competitive bikes.
Mrs M is not going to abide another classic 'Dale in the shed and we are moving so I'm raising some cash.

Raleigh Reynolds Steel 1986ish vintage Race Bike - 60cm (modern 57) - These are clearing for 750ish re-furbed on retrobike.com and have risen in value by around 12% a year in past 3 years. This one is 65% refurbed, needs new chain and cassette, about 40 quid. All works fine. £110

Schwinn 'Beach Bum' - really battered, bought back from the US. Needs a re-furb but is the cool 1982 'slope' frame. £25. All works fine. - Collection only CV7.

PICS ON WAY!!
