Cleaning shoes

Hi folks,

I have a pair of white Specialized shoes (can't recall the model, but the cheaper ones with 3 velcro straps) and as it stands they are rather grubby. The mesh vents have acquired a grey/yellow tinge, and there's some grime in the leather sections. My usual tricks of baby wipes has taken some off the leather, and some from the plastic edging, but can anyone recommend what else I can do to clean them up a little.

Before you say it, I know its my own fault for using white shoes, but they look far better when they are clean

Meh. Bung each into a loosely tied pillow case. 30 degree wash with the slowest spin. Hey presto sparkling white shoes. My Ergo2 and Mavic MTB get this treatment regularly and are fine

When they are done stuff with newspaper to retain shape and let them air dry

Shoes are jackets for our feet. They need washed occasionally.

This will sound weird, but it will work, without any chemicals.

Get a soft toothbrush and some toothpaste (bicarb is best) and then gently massage the paste with the brush onto the affected parts.

Leave it to sit 10 minutes, then wipe with a damp cloth. Jobs a good one 26
