London - Confused about entry-level TTs

Hey guys, I've been a roadie for about two years now but what I've always wanted to do is ride competitive TTs. Recently I've feel like I have the fitness to at least not embarrass myself too badly, and I would like to do some TTs around London. I did the Staple Lane hill climb some time ago, but I'd be more interested in flatter 10 milers.

I know I'm supposed to check the british time trials website, but frankly I find it very confusing. And it seems most of them are scattered in all sorts of places across the UK, and I would prefer somewhere within riding/short train journey distance to London (don't own a car).

So can you help me out? What are the most accessible ones I could do?

Most of the events listed on the CTT website are Open events, which you have to enter at least 2 weeks in advance and be a member of an affiliated club.

But finding club TTs is straightforward enough. Either a recommendation from someone or look here, I suggest you the filter to show a list for one district at a time:

http://www.ctt.org.uk/Clubs/tabid/118/Default.aspx

There is no minimum fitness level required, time trials are for everyone.

Yeah I agree club tts are a great way to have a go, although opens are no different apart from needing to join a club and enter in advance.

http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk In the beginners section there is a list of the clubs and contacts etc. Not all club events are listed on the ctt event listings so it is worth looking on the clubs websites and district websites.

Oh and pedal like Fxxx

There are two types of events listed on the CTT website: open TTs and club TTs. I would ignore the open ones, which you have to enter in advance, for the time being.

Most clubs organise (often weekly) club TTs. These are probaly better to get you started. You don't actually need to be a member of the club to enter one, but if you're not already a member of a local club then I'd recommend it because you'll get lots of free advice and a sense of the local TT scene. All you usually need to do is turn up 20 minutes or so before the start time and pay the entry fee (usually £3).
