help with new road bike

by nutty driver   June 10, 2013

Hi

I've no doubt this has been posted before but I am looking at getting my first road bike. I've got a budget of about £850 which is a little flexible but need pedals, shoes etc.

I've test ridden a few but they all seem similar in feel but managed to get down to 2 options :-

Felt F85 2013 £800
Trek 1.5 C H2 2013 £850

To add to this I've also seen an offer on Janis Ventura Race at £850!

Any thoughts on which to go for? Or any others I can look at. Im thinking id prefer Tiagra gearing as a minimum.

Look forward to your advices

If you can hang on til the TdF starts, that's often when the offers really start kicking in.

Hello. Nutty driver
I am not sure what bikes you have tested but I have heard from 2 ex racers Trek is a good brand and the better one out of the group above . Not sure of your size but the is a

Ribble Sportive Bianco 52cm, Campag Athena 11spd compact - £695. Second hand for sale - astonishing value bike
the same preson selling a Boardman Team Carbon Large - £695.- with a class-leading specification and a ride to match

Other bikes to try

Mekk A1 Pinerolo AL 1.0 – avergage bike for money

Ribble Winter Trainer - Quite simply the best value sub £750 bike on the market

Cannondale Caad 8 - great all-around

BMC Streetracer SR01 - a value packed bike

Thanks for that info, I'm leaning towards the trek. I've used a trek mountain bike previously so know the quality. Heard great things about the CAAD 8 & BMC but stretching the budget.

I like the sound of the Boardman Uve seen - where was that?

I Have seen it on a social utility group, I think he is in Devon but unsure, he also has a mobile number. I could PM you with the Moble Number of the person if you would like.

I got my first roadie a few months back and it is excellent. i opted for the Cannondale CAAD8. It only has sora but I think you could get the spec up with the rest of your money. I got it for £700 that included £50 free kit from Evans.
