Time For A New Bike

Working on the time honoured principle that the optimum number of bikes is x+1 etc. I think that it's about time that I got bike number 2. Currently on a Trek 1.5 but was considering something around the £1,200 mark. Should I go entry level carbon of a better alu?
Most advice will be gratefully received.
Thanks.

I'm in the same position and i've just been directed towards Mekk bikes, and from what i've read, they look the business for the money!

Going for a test ride tomorrow!

Hi matttheaudit,

You will need to choose the frame material that best suits your riding needs and your current budget. Aluminum frames are a good choice for riders on a tight budget who want optimal performance. Carbon frames are ideal for those riders seeking comfort on longer rides or those seeking optimal performance. Ride both frame materials prior to purchasing in order to determine which best fits your needs.

My choses on your budget:
1. Bianchi Via Nirone 7
2. Cube Agree SL 2012
3. Focus Cayo 3.0
4. Kinesis TK3
5. Trek Madone 2.1
All these are at the top end of your budget, I would subject going for the 2012 models, which are cheaper
Under 1k I would subject:
1. Bianchi Via Nirone 7
2. BMC Streetracer SR01
3. Boardman Road Comp
4. Civia Prospect
5. Forme Longcliffe 1.0
6. Ghost Race 4900
7. Mekk A1 Pinerolo AL 1.0
8. Moda Bolero
9. Norco Valence A1
10. Ribble Evo Pro Carbon
11. Ribble Winter Trainer
12. Scott Speedster 20

It's always time for a new bike, the only restraint is money...

A friend wanted a comfy road bike recently and picked up a 'last years model' Spesh Roubaix for around your budget and he is over the moon with it.

I think this may well answer your question pretty comprehensively!

that's what you should do and a pound left over others will have differing opinions they're wrong!!!

I suppose seriously buy something you like the look of in the right size and suited to what sort of riding you plan on doing.

I'd look at second hand bikes. For that money, with a bit of poking about, you'll easily get decent carbon with something of the level of Ultegra or Dura Ace, good wheels etc.
