Anybody got any recommendations regarding bike insurance - who is cheapest, gives best service, best bolt-ons?
Home insurance from M&S covers you for bikes. If you can switch it might make really good sense. Otherwise, I was paying something like £160 a year to insure a £1700 bike. Mind you, London.
A Tesco home insurance policy covers your cycles too. They use exactly the same underwriters as Direct Line, so you know you're in good hands. I found M&S too finicky over claims in the past. But if you go to a specialist for exclusive bike insurance, it will cost you a premium price. Better, if you can, to get it in your home contents cover - but ... if it's a bike worth £3k, or more, you will have to get specialist cover. Check out British Cycling for advice. They are very, very good. Call em on 0161 274 2000, or see em on www.britishcycling.org and see what they have to say.
nationwide cover bikes up to £2k as standard on their home insurance policy. i've had to claim in the past and they've been very good.
Thanks for all the advice. The M&S policy looks favorite due to the value and number of bikes.
You might try Teachers Assurance (you don't have to be a teacher). We had four bikes stolen from our garage and they sorted out replacements with no fuss at all, and all with House and Contents insurance. And they are cheap!
This topic made me register on the forum. I need an advice I guess. I just moved from the United States and will be living in London for the next 3 years(work related). In the USA I had two bikes (a road bike and a mountain bike) which I insured with Velosurance. When I googled insurance companies , I found that in UK there is a company called Velosure and there is one in Australia as well. I thought I was safe and my policy would just be transferred from USA to UK, but it turned out that these 3 are completely different companies that just happen to have similar names.
I can't say that my bikes are safe now, since I dont even have a garage at the moment. Which of the UK companies are the most reliable and quick to sign up a new customer? I have seen both positive and negative posts about any company I looked up, so I am confused. Need some help please.
